Yesterday Jeremiah Owyang took up a similar discussion http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2007/10/04/r ant-the-challenges-of-social-media/ looking for the dark side of Web 2.0.

Personally, I am all right with conflict; it forces us to challenge ideas and test our resolve. And when it comes to web 2.0 evangelism, I am ok with that as well. In time, the hype will dissipate as web 2.0 moves further into the mainstream.

To be sure, a lot of the hype is self serving, but the benefits that web 2.0 bring are real and sustainable.

As for professional vs amateur. I don't get paid for blogging, but I think it is critical to my profession. As with everything else these days, boundaries continue to blur.
