The final session is a powerhouse. I was able to chat with Arianna Huffington. More on that later. Right now Chris from Notes from the Trenches is offering insights from her own experiences. She is one of the most genuine, smart and funny people I've read. Yes, she has advised us on a project so, I am biased. She is talking about our project with mom bloggers.
The panel includes Arianna, Mena Trott from Six Apart (I am a fan), Grace Davis and Caroline Little from Washington Post/Newsweek Interactive. We are moderated by Chris Nolan. Each is sharing about their own experiences as writers bloggers. Mena talks about wanting a banjo and posting on the fact that her husband didn't want her to have it. She got lots of comments. From trolls. I guess she got feedback that wasn't so hot. That was involved in her desire to blog amongst a smaller, more trusted group.
Arianna is talking about a crush she had on a wonderful man(Bernard Levin) who ended up being her boyfriend for 8 years (no marriage, no kids). They broke up. Unfortunately he died. She was broken-hearted and wrote a very touching piece - more like a blog post than an article. This clued her into the value of raw, honest writing. She is terrific. And she has a new book out.
Interesting discussion about courage and fear. Touching thoughts. This is probably the first time the big room has been super-silent and attentive.
