Coincidentally we launched a pretty funny viral thingee the other day and Alison sent me a link of something pretty cool. Both are in honor of Valentine's Day or all things love/date focused.
Viral is a fun way to build awareness. Sometimes irrelevant awareness or a spike that has no lasting value. But it is a way to get involved in the conversation from friend to friend and become part of that personal relationship. Look at the popularity of SNL's Lazy Sunday video. Best thing SNL has done in years. How come they don't own viral? What did the chicken do for Burger King? We all know what it did for the agency and their helpers? I actually think Subservient Chicken helped Burger King as have subsequent efforts with the King in the football spots. Dave Balter from BzzAgent makes a good distinction here about viral "buzz" and valuable word-of-mouth.
Anyhow, here are to fun bets for those in love, dating, or going all the way:
and
Send 'em to a friend or a lover.

Speaking of the Lazy Sunday video, BoingBoing had a post yesterday about NBC's rather lame decision to force YouTube to pull the video from their site. As BoingBoing says, "Viral means the stuff has a life of its own, guys, and that's what made it a hit."
Here it is:
